In the United States, one “standard” drink is any of the following:
- 12 ounces of regular beer, which usually has about 5% alcohol
- 8 to 9 ounces of malt liquor, which usually has about 7% alcohol
- 5 ounces of wine, which usually has about 12% alcohol
- 1.5 ounces of distilled spirits (whiskey, vodka, gin, rum, tequila), which usually has about 40% alcohol
